TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF, YOUR HOBBIES, GOALS AND LIFE ASPIRATIONS…
My husband and I moved here two years ago from Northern Minnesota (practically Canada, “eh?”). I am a working mom of 3 (ages 5, 3, and 1) so my hobbies are pretty limited right now or involve what I can do with kids. I have worked remotely for Aon as a pension consultant (actuary) for almost 10 years.
WHY DID YOU START CROSSFITTING OR FITNESSING?
Before having kids, I spent all my time taking exams for my job. So fitness has been lower on the priorities list. I had done most of my fitnessing with DVD’s (Beachbody, Jillian Michaels etc.) due to the lack of gym accessibility. We also are very active with our kids outside, hiking, mountain biking, road biking, etc. We got bored with the DVD’s and tried the YMCA but lost motivation there too. After a very lengthy phone call with Jake (sorry Jake) I signed us up and haven’t looked back since.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WORKING OUT AND WHY DO YOU CONTINUE?
I love the boost of energy I get from working out and how it sustains me the rest of the day. I am amazed at how much more I can do with my kids, hiking with them on my hip and not get winded; or running up and down the sledding hill with ease. I have always wanted to be the mom that does physical activities with my kids rather than sit on the sidelines and watch. I loved competing in sports in high school and having the challenge of practice every day. The last ten years I have missed that and CrossFit is the perfect replacement.
HOW HAS YOUR FITNESS OR YOUR ACTIVE LIVE IMPACTED YOUR LIFE BEYOND INSIDE OF THE GYM?
It has shown me how much I can do and how to work fitness and nutrition into my lifestyle. I have three young children who depend on me and I want to set a good example. Therefore I take my health very seriously and fitness/nutrition can help me be there for my kids.
IF YOU NEVER HAD TO DO ONE EXERCISE MOVEMENT AGAIN, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
All of them! That’s why I come and have a coach tell me what I have to do.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BEING PART OF OUR FITFAM?
As I said, we joined the gym for strictly fitness but have found we gained so much more than that. We haven’t been part of the gym for even a year yet but the friendships and acquaintances we have made have been wonderful. This past month has been very difficult for our family with the sudden passing of my father-in-law. The outpouring support we have received from the gym, (whether it be a hug, a meal, chocolate dipped fruit or a prayer before a workout) has kept us going and we are so grateful for the community. Thank you all for your support and kindness and a**-kicking workouts!
